About us

We are a young foundation with a clear mission: to ensure climbing for future generations.

In order to do so, Clean Climber aims to bring the impact of the climbing sport in balance with its environment in order to make the sport sustainable.

How do we do that?

We have different programs within our foundation. The programs evolve around cleaning climbing areas, reusing, repairing and recycling climbing gear and creating more awareness among climbers regarding their own responsibilities. We collaborate with climbing gyms, outdoor organisations, the climbing industry and individual climbers to advocate for sustainable behaviour.

With whom?

Clean Climber (mostly) consists of volunteers. Together we try to have the most positive impact possible!

What’s the fun?

In return for your time spent in the role of chairperson, you will get to attend climbing meetups (indoor and outdoor) and if you spend on average more than 2 hours/week on the task, you can climb for free at all the Mountain Network and Werckstof gyms*, with who we’re partnering.

Volunteer manager – volunteer

Clean Climber is looking for a person who’s excited about a sustainable world, preferably an outdoor person or even better, a climber! You’re excited to bring Clean Climber to a higher level of output by attracting more volunteers and giving the volunteers a rewarding experience and satisfaction to contribute to our goal.

Your job will be to attract more volunteers, keep the volunteers involved, connect with them and make their contribution rewarding. You will report to the board.

You are also invited to join the board, to move the foundation in the way you think it needs to go. Starting date: now.

Insta-poster – volunteer

Clean Climber is looking for a person who’s excited about a sustainable world, preferably an outdoor person or even better, a climber! You’re excited to tell our story to the outside world.

We have a biweekly as well as a quarterly newsletter with plenty of updates of sustainable climbing, enough material to post, but currently we don’t have anyone who’s a wiz at Insta. If you’re that person, we’d love to get you on the team! The volunteer job will take about 2 hours of work per week and in ‘exchange’, you’ll enter a group of excited sustainable climbers, have climbing meetings in the Netherlands and sometimes abroad and make an impact on sustainable climbing. You’ll work directly with our head marketing and communications. Starting date: now.

Director – volunteer/paid

Clean Climber is looking for a person who’d love to lead the foundation together with founder Gerard van Laar. If you’re passionate about climbing and want to change it for the better, here’s your chance to lead the way.

The founder has started the Clean Climber in 2018, which became a foundation in 2019. Since then, multiple programs have been initiated and are successful. Yet again, to grow and to become more professional, Gerard would love to work together with somebody to lead the way together, to learn and to grow. It is very possible that there are ways that you can get paid through our research programs, but most of the work is voluntarily as we’re on a budget. If you have good leader skills and can see the big picture of our projects, this might be something for you. Starting date: now.
